GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Lady Mavericks volleyball team was picked to finish 7th in the preseason poll, but at this point in the season they're a 3-seed getting set to host round one of the RMAC tournament.

Just 8 of 16 teams in the conference will get a shot at a regional berth if they haven't already claimed a spot.

Colorado Mesa needs to finish as the tournament champs in order to secure a berth to the next level, and they're ready to prove they have what it takes to make it to the top.

"I'm almost glad we weren't selected in the top three because that just gives you so much more to work for," said sophomore Christian Otzen. "The fact that we were seeded 8th, it just kind of made us upset and gave us something to work for which was respect."

"We've gotten this far, and we have nothing to lose, so we might as well just give it our all," said senior setter Jordyn Moody. "We've been practicing really hard, and we've seen our practices progress as the year's gone on so I just feel like we're peaking at the right time."

"We've had some tough games recently that we've come through with W's, including on Saturday night against New Mexico Highlands," said head coach Dave Fleming. "We're finding ourselves and we're understanding that if we're on our A-game we're going to be very very tough to beat."

The Lady Mavericks will host 6-seed Colorado Christian Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM at Brownson Arena. Winners advance to the semifinals on Friday with site to be determined.
