GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Coming into week two of RMAC play, the CMU Mavericks were 0-1 after losing their last game to Chadron State College.
Saturday afternoon the Mavs took on the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets who were 0-3.
CMU got two quick touchdowns early in the first quarter, but after that, their offense struggled to do anything for the middle two quarters.
Quarterback Kyle Duran went down with an injury in the first half and did not return.
Jason Haferman took a while to get going, but once he connected with Steven Lindquist on a 37 yard touchdown pass, he threw the ball much more confidently.
Haferman finished the game with 162 yards passing, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
Meanwhile, the defense didn't allow a single touchdown to the Yellow Jacket's capable offense.
Led, yet again, by Jake Edmiston, they forced seven interceptions.
Edmiston 13 tackles and two picks, as the Mavericks improve to 1-1 in RMAC play, knocking off BHSU 49-11.
