GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. With both Regis and CSU-Pueblo in town, the Mavs started their Saturday games with a 6-1 loss to the Rangers.
In the later game against CSU-Pueblo, the Mavs struggled early to get anything going until Sarah Phillis stepped up in the third inning with the bases loaded and one out. She cranked one over the wall in left field for a grand slam, which gave CMU the 4-2 lead at the time.
That would be all the runs the Mavericks would put on the board though, as the Thunderwolves added six more in the fourth and fifth innings to win it 8-4.
CMU falls to 14-12 overall with a 12-7 RMAC record, and is on their first three-game losing streak since the West Texas Invitational in mid-February.
They will re-play both of these teams on Sunday at Bergman Field.
