KINGSVILLE, Texas (KKCO) - The (2) Colorado Mesa Mavericks are off to a strong start in Kingsville, defeating the (5) St. Mary's Rattlers in game one 6-2.

Matt Williams gave up two runs in the first inning, but he was able to pick up his tempo and finish play with eight strikeouts.

On offense, the fourth was huge for the Mavs. Nate Robertson scored a solo homer and Justin Rosales soon followed with a three-run homer to take the 4-2 lead.

CMU finished with their first win 6-2, moving on in the winner's bracket. They will face (3) St. Edward's (a team that defeated St. Mary's twice during the Heartland Conference Championships) on Friday.
