Broncos phase in metal detectors for fans at gates

DENVER, Colo. (AP) – Some fans attending Denver Broncos games are now being scanned with hand-held metal detectors instead of being patted down by security officials.

The team says it will begin phasing in the wands today when the Broncos play the Chicago Bears at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver.

Stadium officials say the wands will be more effective and more fan-friendly. They say the wand scans are quicker, minimize physical contact and eliminate the need for separate lines for men and women.

Still, the team asked fans to arrive 30 minutes earlier for Sunday’s game to get through the new process.
