GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Despite giving up three interceptions and a fumble, the Grand Junction Tiger defense kept their Thursday night opener in reach. But the offense could not make up enough lost ground as the Tigers lost to the Highlands Ranch Falcons 17-10.
Sean Rubalcaba had a rough 2010 debut. The junior quarterback gave up three interceptions (two in the first quarter) with no touchdown passes. The defense did a great job to stop most of the Falcon's scoring attempts, but Joe Hansley had a 45-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to make it 7-0. Andy Willett responded for GJHS with a three-yard touchdown run to tie the game up. After a Falcon field goal, Hansley struck once again for Highlands with a 14-yard touchdown. They went into the half with a 17-10 lead.
The second half saw great defense that eventually allowed no points from either side. The Tigers fall to 0-1 on the season and they will head to Overland for their next game on Sept. 10.
