GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Colorado Mesa avoided elimination on Friday by beating Metro State, but Saturday brought a new test to the Mavericks.
They faced their long-time rivals New Mexico Highlands, and they had the bats going early. The Mavs drove in 3 in the 1st, and 2 in the 2nd and 3rd innings to take an early 6-0 lead, and the hit train just kept rolling.
By the 6th the Mavs were already up 11-0, and that was pretty much it for the Cowboys.
Mesa moves on to play CSU Pueblo at 12:00 PM on Sunday. In order to win the tournament the Mavs will have to beat the Thunderwolves twice.
