Webster Will Start At Middle Linebacker

DENVER (AP) - Niko Koutouvides proved to be the perfect motivator for Nate Webster.

When the Denver Broncos signed Koutouvides to a three-year, $7.5 million contract on March 3rd, Webster knew he was in for some competition at middle linebacker. Coach Mike Shanahan announced Monday that Webster has won the starting job.

The signing of Koutouvides allowed the Broncos to move D.J. Williams from middle linebacker to the weak side, his natural position. And Denver also signed free agent Boss Bailey to play strong side linebacker.

Webster says Koutouvides' signing made him "lock in and focus a little more" coming into camp.

Webster is in his ninth year out of the University of Miami. He moved back to middle linebacker after playing on the strong side last year.

Koutouvides was a special teams ace in Seattle, but he was hoping to play more defensive snaps in Denver.
