Lance Wins Aspen Race As He Gears Up For Tour

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Lance Armstrong's road back to the Tour De France is taking him through the mountains around Aspen.

Armstrong won the Aspen Cycling Club's 10-mile Smuggler-Hunter Creek Mountain bike race Wednesday, just a day after announcing he
was coming out of retirement to seek an eighth victory in the Tour.

He finished in 57 minutes, 10 seconds - 14 seconds ahead of the second-place rider.

His spokesman, Mark Higgins, says Armstrong also plans to compete Sunday in the 12 Hours of Snowmass. That mountain bike race is a fundraiser for the Aspen Youth Center and the Extreme Sports Camp, a service for kids with autism.

Organizers hope to raise $25,000 to $30,000.

Armstrong is a cancer survivor who's said he wants to compete professionally again to raise awareness about the disease.
