GRAND JUNCTION - Defense was the name of the game on Friday night at Stocker Stadium as the Fruita Monument Wildcats shutout the Rangeview Raiders 21-0.

The Wildcats scored on the first drive of the game thanks to a big kickoff return by Mike Campbell that set up the Wildcats deep in the Raiders territory. Campbell would later cap the drive with an 11 yard touchdown run.

On the ensuing point after attempt, Wildcats quarterback Brett Nankervis picked up the hold and threw to a wide open Scott Miller for two to put the Wildcats up 8-0.

Nankervis would extend the Wildcats lead to 14-0 after an 11 yard keeper for six. The point after kick was no good.

Rangeview came close to scoring in the second quarter when attempting to convert a fourth and goal situation for a touchdown. The pass to the corner of the endzone fell incomplete to keep the Raiders off the board.

Fruita improves to 2-1 with the win. The Wildcats next game is on Friday, September 19 against the Grand Junction Tigers at 7:00 p.m. at Stocker Stadium.
