GRAND JUNCTION - With a score six strokes lower than its first round total the Mesa State women's golf team fell one spot from the openin round standings to finish in fourth at the Maverick Fall Invitational at Tiara Rado Golf Course on Tuesday.
The Mavs finished with a two round score of 668, 13 strokes higher than first place finisher Fort Hayes State's 655.
Second place was decided by one stroke. Montana State-Billings edged Western New Mexico with a total score of 665 compared to the Mustangs 666.
Individually Kiley Johansen of Fort Hayes State finished in first with a two day score of 159, 17 over par. Meagan Chapman from CSU-Pueblo finished second, one stroke behind Johansen while Kalli Stanhope (M.S.-Billings) finished third at 162.
Mesa State's top finisher was Jennifer Hilts who tied for fourth at 163. Afton Ballin finished in a tie for 9th with a score of 165 while Sadie Peavler finished in 15th at 167.
Hilts, Balling, and Jessica Berve (T22, 173) each made up one stroke from the previous days score while Peavler made up the biggest difference reducing her first round score by three strokes on Tuesday for Mesa State.
The Mavs next tournament will be at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Goodyear, Arizona on Monday and Tuesday, September 29-30.
