Last Second Touchdown Puts Warriors Over Wildcats

GRAND JUNCTION - One week after the Fruita Monument Wildcats won a rivalry game over Grand Junction with a last second touchdown, the Central Warriors responded by defeated the Wildcats with a last second touchdown 21-18 on Friday night at Stocker Stadium.

Holden Reed scored his second rushing touchdown of the game to give the Warriors a one point lead 19-18. On the ensuing play, Reed rushed it in for the two point conversion.

The Wildcats took the early lead and never relinquished it until Reed's last second touchdown run. Quarterback Brett Nankervis scored on a nine yard run for the early 6-0 lead.

Sean Hillman extended the Wildcats lead with a four yard rush to go up 12-0.

Reed scored the opening touchdown for Central in the second quarter with an eight yard scamper to cut the lead to 12-7. Nolan Curtis led the Warriors with 74 yards rushing on 16 carries while Blaine Jackson hauled in four catches for 50 yards and a touchdown.

Nankervis threw for 127 yards and rushed for 62 yards in the loss. He also rushed for one score and threw for one score. Mike Campbell carried the ball 20 times for 80 yards and also had 68 yards receiving on three receptions for a touchdown.

Central's next game is on Friday, October 3 against Eaglecrest at Stocker Stadium at 4:00 p.m.

Fruita Monument is back on the field on October 3 as well on the road against Durango at 7:00 p.m.
