Mavs Crowned King Of Mesa State Homecoming

GRAND JUNCTION - The Mesa State Mavericks extended their winning streak to three games, continuing their unbeaten play in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a 35-13 win against Fort Lewis Saturday night for Homecoming at Stocker Stadium.

The Mavs jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on a nifty 22 yard run by quarterback Phil Vigil. Vigil rushed for 38 yards and threw for 175 and a touchdown.

Bobby Coy surpassed the 100 yard mark on the ground for the fourth time in five games this season. He rushed for 110 yards against the Skyhawks including a 22 yard second quarter touchdown run.

Maurice Manley hauled in 4 catches for 84 yards and a score.

The Mavericks may have played it's best game of the season on the defensive side of the ball. The Mavs recorded 5 sacks, forced a blocked punt, and intercepted a pass which was returned for a touchdown by Spencer McAdoo.
