Broncos Defense Giving Up Nearly 30 Points A Game

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Broncos coach Mike Shanahan says Sunday's 33-19 loss at Kansas City isn't the fault of the defense alone.

Shanahan said Monday the four turnovers by the offense made it impossible for the defense to do its job. But the players on defense admit they need to do a better job.

Although the offense gave up two fumbles and two interceptions, those miscues resulted in only 10 of the Chiefs' points.

The Broncos are allowing nearly 30 points 409 yards of offense per game. They surrendered only 160 yards through the air against Kansas
City, an improvement for a team that entered the game ranked last in the league against the pass.

But the Chiefs' Larry Johnson ran for 198 yards and scored two touchdowns.

The Broncos play Tampa Bay in Denver next Sunday.
