Mavs "Swing For Life" On Thursday Night

GRAND JUNCTION - In 2002 Kathy Howa, a former Mesa State standout in softball and volleyball, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Howa beat the disease and has since helped raise more than $230,000 for cancer research.

On Thursday night the Mesa State volleyball team played against Colorado Christian at Brownson Arena and Howa was on hand with her "Swing For Life Foundation" to help raise money for cancer research.

Admition to the game was free, but fans were encouraged to donate to the foundation and to take part in a silent auction for game jerseys, autographed memorabilia, and raffle tickets.

All proceeds are donated to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah.
