Central Presses Luck, Earns Second State Bid

GRAND JUNCTION - It wasn't easy, but the Central Warriors are headed to state.

Central defeated Cherry Creek 3-1 in their first Regional matchup at Canyonview Park on Saturday. That set up a Regional championship game against the Columbine Rebels.

With a Regional title and the first of two state qualifying positions on the line, the Warriors dropped a 2-1 decision to Columbine in a game that featured two of the best pitchers in the state. Kelsey O'Brien outdueld Mikayla Duffy for the tight win.

But the Warriors bounced back. After Cherry Creek defeated Fruita, the Warriors met the Bruins for the second and final state qualifying bid.

Central made quick work of the Bruins with a 13-3 win in five innings.
