A's, Rockies Close To Completing Holliday Trade

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Matt Holliday's trade to the Oakland Athletics is nearly complete and an announcement is expected soon.

The Colorado Rockies are set to send Holliday to the A's for reliever Huston Street, left-hander Greg Smith and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez.

The teams are reviewing the players' physicals and an announcement is expected early tomorrow, according to two people with knowledge of the discussions.

Both spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade wasn't finalized.

Holliday was in the Bay Area today to meet with A's officials and be examined. The star outfielder is due to make $13.5 million next season and then will be eligible to become a free agent.

The 28-year-old Holliday was runner-up for the NL MVP award last year and was MVP for the 2007 NL Championship Series.
