GRAND JUNCTION, Colo - The Mesa State men's and women's basketball teams hosted the Colorado Christian Cougars at Brownson Arena on Sunday.
Justin Neuhaus led the Cougars with with 21. Ryan Mathews led all scores with 29 but it wasn't enough as the Mavericks lost 76-67. Mesa State (4-3) plays its next four games on the road.
The women's team had a chance to end a two-game losing streak and even their record at .500 and looked like it would happen after a hot start.
Alishea Kelly hit a three-point basket and Erin Richardson added two more in the opening minutes as the Mavericks jumped out to an early lead.
But CCU came back strong to beat Mesa State 81-72. The Mavericks (3-5) were led by Richardson with 23 points. The Mavericks host the Christmas Classic on December 28 and 29.
