GRAND JUNCTION - The Mesa State men's basketball team had to overcome a second half deficit to defeat the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves on Thursday night 65-61 at Brownson Arena.
The Mavericks were led by an unlikely star in the game in Jase Herl. Herl was near perfect in shooting on the night with 10 of 12 free throws made, and 6-9 from the field for a team high 25 points. Herl also made a critical three pointer in the second half that helped fuel the Mavs comeback.
Ryan Matthews added 18 points for the Mavs in the win to go with three steals. Kurt Bangle scored six points and grabbed three rebounds for the Mavs.
The Mavs will be back on the floor again on Friday night when they host the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m.
