GRAND JUNCTION - Senior's Geoff Baldwin and Everett Robinson combined for 37 points as the Grand Junction Tigers clinched the Southwestern League title in a 73-43 win over the Central Warriors on Tuesday night.
The Tigers (8-1 SWL) pulled away in the second quarter to build a 15 point lead at the half 40-25 and never allowed that lead to decrease in the second half.
The Central Warriors (7-2 SWL) could have locked up the league title for themselves had they defeated the Tigers on Tuesday night. But now even if the Tigers lose to the Fruita Monument Wildcats on Friday night they will still be SWL champs due to tie-breakers.
The Montezuma-Cortez Panthers are in third place in the SWL, and the tie-breaker would go to the Warriors and Tigers records against the third place team. The Panthers split the two game series with Warriors but lost both matchups against the Tigers.
The Warriors will wrap up the regular season on Friday night when they host the Montrose Indians.
