GRAND JUNCTION - An 11 run fifth inning propelled the Mesa State baseball team to a 20-9 win over the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys on Friday night at Suplizio field.
Mavs outfielder Justin Little launched a three run homer in the fifth to give Mesa a 18-5 lead at the time. The shot was Little's second homer of the season.
The Mavs built a 20-5 lead heading into the ninth when Cowboys infielder Joe Mulroy hit a grand slam to add the final four runs of the game.
Initially the four game series between the Mavs and the Cowboys was scheduled to take place with one game on Friday, two on Saturday, and the final game on Sunday. But with wintery weather coming in to the Grand Valley the two teams will play game two of the series on Friday night.
The Mavs once again dominated in game two with a 15-1 win over Highlands.
Game three of the series is scheduled to take place on Saturday at 2:00 weather pending. If Mother Nature doesn't cooperate, then the Mavs will play a double-header with the Cowboys on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
