GRAND JUNCTION, Colo - The Mesa State softball team continues to struggle, but has shown some signs of improvement.
Expectations were very high for the Mavericks coming into the 2009 season. But the team lost its first five RMAC games before winning the back end of a doubleheader against UC Colorado Springs on Sunday.
Monday's doubleheader was very similar to Sunday's. Mesa State blew a lead and lost game one, then held on to win game two. The Mavs lead 4-1 after two innings before losing 9-7. In game two Mesa State scored 4 runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5-2 lead, then held on to win 6-3.
Mesa State is now 6-8 overall (2-6 RMAC) as they head into six straight games on the road beginning with a doubleheader at Fort Lewis on Thursday.
