Walters comes to Mesa State College after five successful seasons as the Roaring Fork boys basketball coach where he compiled a 115-17 overall record with the Rams. He also took the Rams to two state championship games and was named the 3A Coach Of The Year for the state of Colorado in 2006.

Walters was also the head coac for the boys' basketball team at Rifle High School from 1995-2002 winning 94 games compared to 59 losses.
