DENVER - All good things must come to an end... Including the Mesa State baseball team's winning streak. The Mavericks had won 16 straight heading into a four-game weekend series at Metro State.
Bad weather forced the series to be pushed from Saturday-Sunday to Sunday-Monday. Then the lingering storms forced the teams to cancel one of the games on Sunday. It may have been better for Mesa State if they had cancelled both games on Sunday.
The Mavericks trailed 8-2 before entering the seventh inning where they scored five runs then added another run in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game at 8.
Niether team scored in the ninth, forcing the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th inning Metro State's Kevin Coughlin came in to pinch hit and drove a walkoff solo homerun to center field, ending the game 9-8.
The teams are scheduled to finish the series with a doubleheader on Monday.
