GRAND JUNCTION, Colo - Three days after beating Grand Junction to force a three-way tie between Junction, Fruita and Durango for the SWL lead, the Wildcats were routed by the Demons.
Durango jumped all over starting pitcher Cody Rahmann, getting out to an 8-0 lead over Fruita Monument in the first inning.
Rahmann was replaced by Wayne Landini with two outs in the top of the first. Landini threw a wild pitch to the first batter he faced, allowing another run to score and the Demons led 9-0 in the middle of the first.
With one man on base in the bottom of the second inning, Fruita's ace pitcher Rex Clemons (who was in as the DH) hit his first homerun of the season.
The Wildcats managed just one more run the rest of the game and the Demons scored 6 more on the way to a 15-3 win over Fruita.
Durango now sits in the driver's seat for the Southwestern League title. The Demons and Grand Junction Tigers each have two conference losses (home and home series with each other). But Durango holds a tie-breaker edge having beat Fruita Monument twice.
