Mesa Softball Splits on Senior Day

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo - The Mesa State softball team split a doubleheader against Adams State on Senior Day. Sunday was the final day of regular season games for the Mesa State senior softball players. The day started off great, but ended in frustration.

Mesa State won the first game 10-4 and appeared to be on their way to a victory in game two.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Ashlee Duffy hit a solo homerun to right field.

Not to be outdone, Katie Mitchell hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to put Mesa on top 4-3.

But the lead didn't last. Adams State scored two runs in top of the seventh inning and then blanked Mesa State in the bottom of the inning to claim a 5-4 win over the Mavericks.

Mesa State finishes the regular season 23-17 (19-15 RMAC).
