GRAND JUNCTION, Colo - The Mesa State baseball team's second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Colorado Christian was halted due to a hailstorm and lightning.

Mesa State won the first game of the doubleheader, which started an hour and a half late due to morning rainstorms. The Mavericks beat the Cougars 7-6.

Mesa trailed 3-2 with one out in the top of the seventh inning when lightning began to flash on the horizon followed by a voilent downpour of rain and marble-sized hailstones. The hail fell so fast and thick that it blanketed the field and forced Mesa and CCU to suspend play.

The teams will resume at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday to conclude the game.
