FRUITA, Colo - The Fruita little league 9 & 10 year-old softball All-Stars earned first round bye at the State tournament. They dropped their first game of the tournament, losing to Shaw Heights on Sunday.

Fruita and Shaw Heights were tied 2-2 at the end of the sixth inning, sending the game into extra innings. In the top of the seventh inning Shaw Heights scored on an RBI single.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Fruita managed to get runners on second and third with two outs. Unfortunately that's as close as they would get to extending winning or extending the game further. A groundout to first gave Shaw Heights the 3-2 win.

Shaw Heights advances to Tuesday's championship. Fruita will meet High Plains in the losers bracket at 5:30 pm on Monday with the winner getting another shot at Shaw.
