ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - The Denver Broncos signed rookie cornerback Alphonso Smith to a four-year contract on Sunday. They signed three of their 2009 draft picks on Monday.
Safety Darcel McBath (#48 overall) was an All-Big XII honorable mention at Texas Tech last season. He also had seven interceptions last season (two returned for touchdowns), ranking third in the NCAA.
David Bruton, another safety (#114 overall) led Notre Dame with 182 tackles and seven interceptions during his final two years in school.
Sixth round pick Tom Brandstater (#174 overall) played quarterback at Fresno State. He started 36 games over three seasons with 55 touchdowns. Last season alone he threw for a career best 2,664 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Alphonso Smith (#37 overall) was taken in second round when the Broncos traded next year's first round pick to Seattle to acquire him. The Broncos had already signed TE Richard Quinn (5th round, 64th overall), WR Kenny McKinley (5th round, 141st overall), G Seth Olsen (4th round, 132nd overall), and C Blake Schlueter (7th round, 225 overall).
Rookies were scheduled to report to camp today, along with veterans coming off of injuries. Training camp officially begins on Friday.
