Mavs LB Named Defensive Player Of Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mesa State football team lost its season opener last Saturday against #14 Central Washington 10-7. But the Mavs defense played tough and is receiving recognition from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Mavs inside linebacker Bennett Newton was named the RMAC defensive player of the week after compiling 19 total tackles against Central Washington including a half sack and one interception in the loss.

Chadron State wide receiver Brandon Harrington was named the RMAC offensive player of the week and Chadron State kicker Travis Atter was named the special teams player of the week.
