GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - CMU baseball player Austin Kaiser was one student affected by the recent house fires, but he still hopes to come out big in Friday night's game.
Kaiser and four other students were renting the house when it caught on fire after the first home exploded just blocks from the college campus.
Kaiser lost everything - from shoes and clothing to his baseball equipment and old Mesa State gear.
He says everything still seems so surreal, but he's hoping to be able to focus on the big rival game against New Mexico Highlands this Friday.
"My goal and my hope is that playing this weekend is actually an escape from everything that's going on," he said. "I can see it as something I love to do, and it will keep my mind off the million other things I'm thinking about when I'm not playing."
