GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Colorado Mesa Mavericks put in some finishing touches prior to the start of Thursday's NCAA South Central Regional Championships.
Six teams will open up the first round of play. For CMU, they play host to sixth seeded New Mexico Highlands University. The Mavericks traveled to New Mexico in late March only to split the series in four thrilling games.
This time around the Mavs have home field advantage, and they've learned from an early 2013 regional exit, so they're coming hungry.
"A lot of these guys were on that team.," said Nate Robertson. "We know how it feels to go that far, and we've come up short so I think that's going to be just one determining factor that's going to help us and aid us."
"We're just real excited to host," said Derrick Garcia. "It's a goal we've had the last month to win the tournament and the post and I feel like we deserve it, and now that we're about to host we're all real excited especially since we did pretty well at home."
Colorado Mesa will play New Mexico Highlands in the first round of play Thursday night at 7:00.
