CMU Baseball: Mavs split double header with Thunderwolves

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Well what else is new? The CMU baseball team is hotter than a Phoenix sidewalk in mid-August, and they're playing a weekend series that could end up looking more like a series of football games.

Not so fast, my friends.

CSU Pueblo didn't want to hear about all that Mesa nonsense, and they let it show from the get go on Friday night. They roughed up CMU ace Nolan Snell early, but after a lightning delay the Mavs bats ignited to lead them to victory.

Saturday proved to be an even tougher task. The first game seemed to be all but won when closer Garrett Carpenter came into the game with a four run lead, but low-and-behold the Thunderwolves exploded for 6 runs and possibly a stolen W.

Mesa would not go away quietly, though. They scratched back to a tie with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, and it only took one wild pitch from CSU's Mike Fabrizio and one great baserunning play by Braden Box to win the game for the Mavs.

In the second game, it looked as if their magic was all but used up. Pueblo jumped on Joey Danner for 8 runs in 2 innings, and the Mavs couldn't mount a comeback. They fell to the Thunderwolves 12-5.
