GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The athletic department at CMU is making a few changes for the upcoming school year. Coach Jim Heaps, men's basketball head coach, is stepping down from that role and has been appointed as an Assistant Athletic Director for Student Success.

In the last 17 seasons, Heaps has led the Mavs to two RMAC championship titles, seven west division titles, and four NCAA tournament berths.

Coach Heaps will transition into the new position immediately. As the Assistant AD he will work one-on-one with student-athletes, helping them on their path toward graduation.

Andy Shantz, a CMU grad and men's basketball associate coach, will take the helm as the interim head coach for the upcoming season.
