GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) It takes two sides to get the ball rolling and finish with a win. For the Colorado Mesa Mavericks - they've been staying consistent on both ends.

Their defense has been playing tight, getting the ball back into their offense's hands and in turn getting those points on the board.

Since the beginning of the season, the Mavericks have stood a top the conference charts in interceptions.

This week, after adding another one to the growing list, they tied for the national lead with 12 interceptions, just fives games into the season.

The team as a whole is seeing tremendous growth week to week as they hit the weight room harder and the film room longer. Even though it's early, a lot of the guys are feeling like their hard work is paying off and translating onto the field early in the season.

"We're happy. We're all doing our job. We're nationally ranked at the picks, and we just want to continue that," said junior DB Jordan Price. "What we're getting taught to do is just get our hands on the ball. Just get a piece. And just by a little piece it just puts the ball in our hand and gives other players the chance to get the interceptions, and that's why we're pretty much on top doing that."
