CMU Hockey back on the ice in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Instead of getting their ice work in on an outdoor rink, or having to travel to Craig or Glenwood Springs, local skaters and hockey teams have a much more convenient option now that the Glacier Ice Arena has re-opened its doors.

The CMU hockey squad hosted the New Mexico Lobos Friday night, falling by a final of 7-3. They followed up with a rematch Saturday night against the same team.

Down 2-1 entering the second period, the Mavs had lots of chances to get on the board. A Lobo goal by Graeme Chiasson stretched their lead to two goals, but was quickly countered. A Ryan Jones shot was knocked down, but right wing Cole Sweeny got in for the rebound to keep them close.

The third period belonged to the visitors, though as they skate away with back-to-back wins, taking the second game 9-3.

The Mavericks won't have a home game until after CMU's break on January 10.
