CMU baseball No. 1, softball No. 6 in RMAC preseason poll

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- There weren't many surprises in the RMAC preseason coaches poll for baseball and softball.

CMU, the reigning regular-season baseball champs, was voted top team in the league and their returning ace, Nolan Snell, was named RMAC Pitcher of the Year for the preseason awards.

There are some questions regarding Snell potential this year since he suffered a labrum tear at the end of last season.

Four other Mavericks were named to the preseason All-Conference team; Colton Schoelkopf (C), Colton Little (3B), Braden Box (SS), and Austin Kaiser (OF).

As for the CMU softball team, they are expected to finish in the middle of the pack at No. 6.

This is the first season as head coach for Candace Abrams. She said she's perfectly fine with the preseason ranks.

"It gives us a starting point," Abrams said on Wednesday.

"I like to keep my head out of the media as possible," she laughs, "[preseason]'s not the poll that matters. It's the one at the end that truly matters."
