CMU drops season opener at (21) Humboldt St., 38-19

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Russ Martin's first game as head coach at CMU didn't go necessarily as planned.

The 21st-ranked team in the country, Humboldt State (Calif.), defeated the Mavericks 38-19 on Thursday. However, in comparison to 2011's match up between the two teams (Humbolt def. CMU 29-3), Martin's squad demonstrated vast improvement.

R-Freshman Deke Cisco was 10-for-21 in his first start of the season. He added a touchdown and an interception. Cisco also carried the ball a team-high 24 times for 76 yards.

The Mavericks (0-1) will face the Univ. of Northern Colorado on Saturday, Sept. 8. That game will be broadcast on television on the Altitude Sports Network.
