GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. This year it seems as though Colorado Mesa has produced an athlete in every sport that earns a national recognition. On Friday, that athlete came out of the men's golf program, freshman Colin Prater.

Prater was awarded the Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman award, presented by the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation in NCAA Division II men's golf.

Prater became the first Maverick to qualify for the DII National Championships where he finished tied for 45th. He was also named the RMAC freshman of the year, wrapping up his season with a 72.24 stroke average and three first place tournament finishes.
