CMU picks R-Fr. Cisco as starting QB

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- First-year head coach Russ Martin has determined who will start at quarterback for Thursday's season-opener.

Red shirt-freshman Deke Cisco will get the nod against 21st-ranked Humboldt State on Thursday.

Martin says that Cisco has demonstrated a better command of the offense in fall camp, which led to the decision to start him over senior-transfer Austen Fales, and junior Jason Haferman.

While Cisco has earned the most reps with the first-team offense, Fales took his turn with the first-team as well on Monday.

"Right now there is no rule that says you can only play one quarterback [per game]," Martin said during Monday's practice. "So, Deke will start and we'll be getting the others some playing time as well."
