GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The Lady Mavs softball team opens up conference play this weekend at New Mexico Highlands.

Colorado Mesa will play a four-game set over Saturday and Sunday against the Cowgirls.

Both of Mesa's starting pitchers, Jessica Severinsen and Courtney Shreves, are first year players for the Mavs. So this will be their first taste of RMAC competition.

"I really heard it was like a home-run derby," laughed Severinsen when talking about the style of RMAC softball.

"I'm going to try to keep [the opponents] down to a 2-1 or 15-1 [score] with us on top."
