GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Luis Castro’s third inning grand slam was the defining moment for the Grand Junction Rockies slug-fest Wednesday night. They went on to take down the north division’s Missoula Osprey 12-2.

Pitching was stellar all night long. The Colorado Rockies first-round draft pick, left-handed pitcher Kyle Freeland, made his professional debut. His first pitch was a solid strike, and he went on to K the first batter he faced.

Freeland would be allowed two innings of play, producing two strikeouts while allowing three hits and no runs from the mound. But pitching coach Ryan Kibler had plenty more talent to put in the game. In all, the Rockies had six pitchers on the night who combined for six strikeouts while allowing two runs.

But the offense was what carried the team through the game. After scoring two runs in each of the first two innings, Luis Castro got the party started taking the first pitch out of the park in a bases-loaded situation for the grand slam. Plus Kevin Padlo and Nate Causey both added a home run of their own during the game.

The Grand Junction Rockies would take the win 12-2, tallying up 13 hits and committing no errors. They improve to 13-10, still second in the Pioneer League South. Missoula drops to 10-13, third behind Billings and Great Falls.

Game three is set for Thursday at 7:05.
