GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- It's reasonable to assume that a labrum torn 3/4's of the way through would prohibit anyone from playing competitive basketball again.

That's the scenario that CMU senior Chandler Burgon faced heading into the school year last August.

Ultimately he decided to have surgery to repair the badly torn ligament in his shooting shoulder.

The doctors said it would be a 6-9 month recovery, Burgon said, but he wasn't going to give up on returning to the court for his final season.

"I was like, 'Well I'm going for four months,'" he said.

And that's exactly what he did. Burgon was cleared to return to practice this week and he says it's just a matter of getting into shape before he checks into a game.

"[Coach Jim Heaps] says he'd like to see about two weeks of practice to get me back in shape," added Burgon.

Colton Burgon, Chandler's younger brother, has enjoyed a very successful start to the season -- he's been named the RMAC player of the week three times already -- but he's looking forward to playing with his brother again.

"We never got a chance to play together in high school," Colton says, "and when [Chandler] got hurt it was like 'Oh man, that was our last chance.

"But he's back, so it's really exciting," he added.

Coach Heaps told KKCO 11 Sports Director that he plans to use Chandler in the home contest against Western State on Jan. 18th, barring any setbacks.
