Coach Ryan Kibler ready to let Jayson Aquino loose

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Ryan Kibler, the pitching coach for the Grand Junction Rockies, says his new stud on the staff, Jayson Aquino, is ready to cut loose.

Prior to his first start in the Pioneer League, Aquino threw a bullpen session upon his arrival to Grand Junction on Tuesday.

"He was really aggressive," Kibler told KKCO 11 Sports' Phil Stafford on Thursday. "Much more [aggressive] than he was in extended Spring Training.

"[He was] really confident. You could see it in his face and in his body language," remarked Kibler."

Aquino has made nine starts with the Rockies affiliate in the Dominican Summer League, racking up a 6-1 record with 74 strikeouts in 65 innings.

If there is one thing to be worried about, however, it's the new environment that Aquino will face in Suplizio Field.

"It's a bigger stage and a lot livelier atmosphere [in Suplizio]. Things that can distract him a little bit," Kibler said. "I want him to pitch just like he did in front of the few people that were there in extended Spring Training and down in the D.S.L."

In regards to a pitch count or inning limit, there aren't any. "I'd love to see him go seven innings [on Thursday]. Maybe eight innings, that would be great," Kibler commented.
