Dahl's hit-streak ends at 27 games, but Rox win 5 in-a-row

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- David Dahl was just one series short of history, but the Grand Junction Rockies picked up from his leadership and won their fifth straight game on Thursday.

In the series opener with the Great Falls Voyagers (CWS), David Dahl was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. This was the first time that he was hit-less in a game since July 15th against Billings. 27 consecutive games with a hit: an indescribably impressive showing by an 18-year-old who never played in the college ranks.

Elsewhere in the lineup, Juan Ciriaco started the scoring in the third when he crushed a ball to center for a triple. It was a run-scoring extra-base hit for Ciriaco as Chris Cowell scored from first.

A few batters later, Jeff Popick slammed his sixth homer of the year over the wall in left and the Rockies took a 4-0 lead.

That's all the Rox could manage to score, but their pitching staff of Matthew Carasiti, Rayan Gonzalez, Patrick Johnson, and Raul Fernandez kept the Voyagers to only three runs on 10 hits.

The Rockies are now 30-26 on the year and 9-9 in the second half, which puts them 2.0 games back of the Orem Owlz with 20 games left to play.
