GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Grand Junction Rockies went 3-3 in week three of play, splitting time between Grand Junction's Suplizio Field and Idaho Falls' Melaleuca Field. Friday night the Rockies fell in their second straight to the Idaho Falls Chukars, getting shut out 9-0.
While the Chukars came up squeaky clean in the errors column, all while adding 13 hits, the same could not be said for the Rockies; by the end of the night they had four errors and just two hits.
The fourth inning was a breakout inning for Idaho Falls. The first player to the plate, Brawlun Gomez, reached on a fielding error. That set the tone as the Chukars scored four runs off pitchers Craig Schlitter and Taylor Black, jumping to a 5-0 lead.
For the Rockies, they had no response in the next inning. It was a 1-2-3 set that led into another two runs for the home team as they went on to dominate the night, shutting out Grand Junction 9-0.
The teams play against Saturday at 7:15 at Melaleuca Field. Grand Junction trails 2-0 in the series.
