GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - On Monday, the Pioneer League's first honors were awarded, and Grand Junction's very own pitcher Devin Burke was named Pitcher of the Week.
What's most ironic is the fact that the Virginia Tech standout was passed up in the draft, only to sign as a free agent two weeks later.
The 22-year-old has already made a spot for himself in the league. After two pro starts, Burke has put a halt to any doubts that surfaced during the draft just last month.
He is a perfect 2-0 after pitching five scoreless innings against Orem on Friday night when he only let one hit through. Through his first 11 innings as a pro, he grabbed 11 strikeouts against one walk and sits with a 1.64 ERA overall.
