GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Third round draft pick Sam Howard took the hill for the Rockies Saturday night, hoping to give his teams' hot bats some much-needed help from the mound.

He would three three innings, giving up six hits, three earned runs and striking out three.

After scoring 12 runs in the first inning of Friday night's contest, the Rox only manged four in the first inning Saturday, but it was more than enough to give them a nice lead. Nate Causey hit a two-run homer and had three RBI's in the game.

Grand Junction had a 5-1 lead after two innings, but gave up seven runs over the next four innings and couldn't overcome their own deficit.

Orem takes game two of the three-game set with Grand Junction 9-7.

Game three is Sunday at 4:05pm.
