GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Grand Junction is hosting the Western Zone Age Group Swimming Championships for the first time in the 21st century this week.
This year's meet director, Lee Young, says if all goes well this week, the Zones could make a stop on the Western Slope very five years or so.
In a talk with KKCO 11 Sports Director Phil Stafford on Tuesday, Young says that it took a couple years to plan everything you'll see taking place in the El Pomar Natatorium these next six days.
"We have a committee for the Zones that's over 30 people," Young said.
"We've got over 500 volunteers to fill all the slots from hospitality to timing to administration. So it's really a community effort."
