OREM, Utah The Grand Junction Rockies were back in action for game three of their four game series against the Orem Owlz on Wednesday night. And their three-game skid came to a screeching halt when they picked up the 6-2 win, but it wasn't easy.
The Rockies were first to score, getting ahead two runs after two innings. Their pitching was strong with Craig Schlitter and Taylor Black keeping Orem to no runs through the first six innings. Even when a few hits slipped by, the Rockies' defense was there to make the plays.
Orem would eventually come around to score. Michael Strentz notched a two-run single off Yoely Bello that tied up the game in the seventh inning. In the end, it came down to the ninth, when Grand Junction answered the call.
A couple of pitching errors mixed with smart base-play from the Rockies allowed the team four runs and a 6-2 lead. Matt Pierpont came on to close out the game in the bottom of the ninth, and he did so without allowing a single hit.
Grand Junction gets the 6-2 win, breaking Orem's eight-game win streak. Now the Rockies sit three games back of the South Division-leading Owlz.
They close out the road series Thursday night before returning to Suplizio Field Friday for a four game set.
